This May, I'm taking on a 31 day running challenge in support of my local children's hospital!

Every day, over 5,000 children receive care at a children’s hospital in Canada and by supporting me, you’ll be helping fund life-saving research at your own local children’s hospital. Funds for research are needed now more than ever, and your support will allow researchers to uncover new cures and gentler treatments for kids.

Elijah <3

Sunday 23rd Feb
Janeway is so incredible and took such amazing care of my little boy.

Elijah was admitted in 2022 at 3 weeks old with a severe infection in his knee.

We brought him to the ER to get checked out and they noticed his leg swelling and pain, took some blood and released us with an appointment for the pediatrician the following morning. The next morning as we got ready to go to appointment they called and said he had the markers for a bad infection and to return to the ER immediately.
That day he was admitted to hospital with a uti and infection markers high in the 200s. By that evening we were in St John's, 3.5 hrs away and admitted to the children's hospital.
1130pm he was taken into surgery, put to sleep and then opened his knee to clear out the infection. Once it was cultured in the lab it was caught as E coli, produced by his own body due to the uti due to his bad kidneys and phimosis.

Eli has always had hydronephrosis, one of the things they kept watch of in my weekly ultrasounds. They believe the reflux in the kidney created stagnant urine enough to culture it's natural Ecoli giving him an uti which then travelled through the blood and landed in the knee.

Over the first week he was on two continuous antibiotics through iv, one being very hard on his little tummy.
Exactly a week later he was returned to surgery to clear out the last bit of infection and insert a PIC line to make the iv adminstration easier.
Within a few days he had his first SVT episode which he needed to be shocked back into rhythm and sent him to the PICU for the night.
He was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinsons White, a specific type of SVT.
A few days later he had another episode of this and was started in medication to control it.

3 weeks in total were spent at Janeway. He had many incredible mindblowibg specialists, surgeons, nurses and love (and I had wonderful support from the nurses).
Now he's 2.5, full of life and trouble and love. He still sees his specialists as we keep track of his hydronephrosis.

I can never thank Janeway enough for everything
